“My son had been having lessons to learn Rock and Boogie piano. When he started he was already at Grade 6 piano. He absolutely loves these lessons and plays what he is learning all the time"

Matt is giving group keyboard lessons to our 2 children (aged 14 and 11). They have lots of fun and love learning the 80s songs and playing together. We have been specially impressed by how quickly they were able to play along as a group and freestyle too - impressive! The first music lessons they've had that are really fun and don't feel like 'lessons'!

“My daughter started Rock School Keys last year to complete the 'skills' section of DofE Bronze. She really looks forward to lessons and very keen to continue. The sessions are fun and engaging. The process Matt uses really keeps the attention of the students and they progress to real songs they know and love so fast. A great way to learn!

SELF ESTEEM
Why does anyone play Piano or keyboards?
Self esteem is one of the main answers. Once you have learnt an instrument, it is always with you. No other activity stimulates the brain as much as piano playing, and brings life long pleasure to yourself and other people. If you can play an instrument from a young age, it is a skill that you can take with you on your journey through life. You can make new friends, entertain your family, form your first band. You can even add it to your CV!

WHY KEYBOARDS?
The keyboard is the most powerful instrument in modern music.
It is the main interface between a human and a DAW (Digital audio Workstation - the software that is used to create music on a computer. For example: Garage Band).
Modern keyboards can create anything, from bass, guitar, strings, brass and of course piano. Most music you hear in modern films, games, adverts will have been created using a keyboard.
If you can play keyboards, you can play piano. Then you can walk up to a pub piano or a public piano in a train station and knock out a tune. If you can do this at a young age, people will see you differently. They will see you as someone talented, creative and outgoing. You may not yet be any of these things! But people will pat you on the back and say “I wish I could do that” and your self esteem will go up a notch.

Who doesn't love the 80s!
This was Depeche Mode's first hit, and a great tune for teaching rhythm and chord sequences.
